Makan time
Apr 23rd, 2009 by khongfamily
‘Makan’ time is such a breeze for Braedyn. Most of the time, he can finish his food relatively fast provided we feed him instead of letting him taking his own sweet time to finish up his food.
As for Shayanne, it is such a nightmare for both of us (or me - I’m the one who feeds her most of the time). She can really drag her meal times to 2-3 hours.
To save time, I feed both of them together using one bowl (but only during dinner time). I think she can only finish 1/4 bowl each time….*sigh*. I can’t blame her as she never particularly liked food since she was a baby. (daddykhong: Good lah! A low-maintenance child. Did you check that the food is tasty?!)
This ‘Makan time’ scenario happened a few days ago:-
We had dinner at home. As usual, all of us finished our food except for her (with 1/2 a bowl of rice still to go). Mind you, we even finished our share of fruits and Braedyn had additional yoghurt for his dessert as well. On top of that, I washed and cleaned the plates and yet, Shay was still sitting on her highchair storing food in her mouth. She munches on it once in a while but the food never go down her throat *slaps forehead* (she could have been a cow in her past life!).
I tried feeding her after I finished my own food but then she takes FOREVER to swallow so I gave up and let her feed herself.
Tricks to make her finish her food:-
mummykhong: Girl, if you don’t finish your food, you stay here by yourself (at the dining room downstairs) and you can slowly eat your food. Mummy will go up first. You call mummy once you are done, ok?
She gave me the pitiful look and said, “ok”.
By this time, daddykhong and Braedyn were upstairs. I went up to join them and showered Braedyn leaving the girl all alone downstairs. After I was done with Brae, I heard Shay calling me, “Mom, done..”.
See…this trick really works!!! She really cleared everything on her plate. Perhaps she is scared of being alone downstairs…haha. We are such mean parents hor
.
But this girl of ours is not one that lets us off easily. The next day - lunch time:-
As usual, I tried the same trick on her again but this time, I went outside with Brae to bring in the clothes leaving the girl to eat by herself. By the time I came back, this is what I saw:-
I wasn’t sure whether she was really that tired. Anyway, I kept and washed her unfinished plate of rice leaving her sleeping there. Then I called her and carried her out of the highchair. She was awake but a bit blur. After Brae played with her, she became an active girl again running around. You see this girl…kek sei ngo or not?? Obviously my trick doesn’t work anymore and she gives us one of her own in return. *sigh*
She did the same trick when she was 8 months old.

hahahahhahaa… Really makes me laugh looking at her little trick…
My son also very hard to feed, 2-3 hours per meal.. gosh!!!
Yet, he dunno your daughter’s trick yet.. hahaha~~~
oh poor thing being left alone downstairs. she’s such a good girl and didn’t kick up a fuss eh? i still remember that baby photo of hers. So cute!!!
Yeah..she’s such an easy going toddler. Just ‘kek sei ngo’ during meal times
.
hahahaha….it’s just so funny that she can really sleep during her meal time..guess she is too tired eating….
and also…she is such a good girl when u leave her downstairs alone.. won;t she try to climb out on her own or whine to come out???
Ooo…she won’t climb out on her own. She even buckled herself on the highchair
.
Wow… I don’t think my kids ever fell asleep on the high chair. That’s mighty cute
Izac also takes forever to finish his meals *sighs*…
Tragic hor :p
so cute!!! makan till fall asleep *haha* the same thing happened to shan leo when he was younger. we laugh like hell!!!
shan leo also eat super slow!! he doesn’t like his main meals, and usually, daddy will end up finishing whatever he can’t finish!
cute. My daughter never has this kind of stunt. Now we wait and see whether my son will have that or not.
can try the harsh way…
give a reasonable time for meals. let say 30 mins. after 30 mins, dont serve her food already. let her be hungry. a few more times, she will eat quickly. this is my sisters’ trick… n i used this for philip too.
kakakkakakaka..that’s so cute!!
hahahahaha this is so hilarious!!
I hate it when the kids keep their food in their mouth. Bryan likes to do that occasionally too. But i am not as patient as you are. I will threaten to throw away his food if he eats them so slow, and I have thrown away his food before too…so he is scared.
*bad mommy*
I read out loud your article to Lybil, and he can’t stop laughing till now.. especially there is special remark by daddykhong somemore
He laughed even louder when he saw the pictures .. your girl is super cute!!! Actually she is behaving very well already, not climbing out from the high chair … Mine started the ’stunt’ long time ago
Is there anything that she likes particularly? maybe can work on that
hehe… tats so cute!!!!
wah…so smart one? u click on the camera also wont wake up and giggle ah? mine will cry cry cry until we take them out from the chair
LOL reminds me of my kids
hahahahhaha, this is so cute!!! Mine is Fearles forever store the food in his mouth, unless he is hungry, he will finish the food without nagging him. Me no patience, normally will nag nag nag till he finish the food. Sometime will be Cruz, anyway, my two boys will rotate their eating habit.
Oh my..it’s hilarious! So far, none of my kids had fallen asleep while makan. But I know what you mean about being kek sei when comes to feeding time. I think will be following Shay’s footstep.
aiyohh… She looks so cute. You know what, my nightmare about to start too. Xandria starts to choose food… *headache*
She’s really cute! BTW is she topless all the time during meal times… so that you dont have to clean the mess on the clothes?
At home, yes. She likes to eat without her top and it suits us as well as it means less cleaning. Hope this trend of topless eating does not continue…..
hahaha….she was a ‘cow’ in her past life?? did u ate too much beef past life that she came to u now, LOL??!! actually, i agree wif yr funny huby, low maintenance (skinny) kid is still better than fat/obese kid!!
anyway, i never hv to deal with these problems…. :)P
**sticking out tongue**
Haha..the last time I was here, she slept while eatting, now she did it again….:) so cute…
did u let her sleep very late at night?
Er….around midnight.
LOL…this is so hilarious!!
tertidur pulak…tsk tsk…so how many new tricks is mommykhong going to try before Shay outsmarts the lot?
